FRICTION STIR WELDING INTO MASS PRODUCTION
After a development period of several years, Rubitech Group has introduced Friction Stir Welding (FSW) for aluminium die cast products requiring a mass production scale. The unvaried success of our first application, the CONSIST RE heat exchanger, resulted in a seal which is absolutely leak free and durable. Other applications are in progress. FSW is an innovative new joining method offering new flexibility to product designers in several industries. It involves the material surfaces being forced together and a rotating tool being pushed down into the aluminium and moved along the joint line. The rotating tool generates so much friction heat that the material is mixed together in a semi-solid state without melting it. This yields obvious improvements over other welding techniques with regard to material waste and integrity.

So far, this process is worldwide mainly used on aluminium extrusion and rolled quality alloys. Rubitech is one of the first companies to apply FSW on aluminium high pressure die casting while retaining our focus of mass production benefits and cost effectiveness.
Armed with the FSW success of the mass produced Consist RE heat exchanger, our experienced product engineers are now assisting other customers in getting the most out of this technique.
